As the mother of two growing boys I am always looking for books to encourage them on their journey to becoming young men. I also want to present my sons with Godly role models, whether in our personal relationships or through the pages of a book. Bob Schultz, a carpenter by trade, has given families a true gift by writing Boyhood and Beyond: Practical Wisdom for Becoming a Man. As I turned the pages, I was so pleased with the way Mr. Schultz writes - as if he has written a personal letter to my son.
Written with young readers in mind, Boyhood and Beyond features short, easy-to-read chapters filled with personal stories and practical wisdom, all backed up with Scripture. This timeless book does an excellent job of covering important topics like how to forgive, diligence, laziness, studying God's Word, overcoming fear, preparing for a wife, and more. I was especially pleased to find that the author basically leaves talk about the physical aspects of puberty and marital intimacy where it belongs...with the boy's parents. It is so nice to have a Godly older man "talking" to my son through the pages of this book and not having to worry about my son being exposed to information we may or may not be ready for him to have at this point. Written for preteen boys, it is suitable for young men of any age (9 and up) to read on their own. Each chapter ends with several questions for comprehension and application, making this an excellent family or personal devotional book as well. Highly Recommended!
